YEAH, SO NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH IS REALLY JUST INCREASING AWARENESS ON HOW WE SHOULD LOOK AT HAVING BETTER NUTRIENT DENSE FOODS, THE FOODS THAT ARE GIVING US THE BIGGEST BANG FOR OUR BUCK.
SO WHEN WE'RE SAYING WHAT DO THOSE FOODS LOOK LIKE, LIKE GIVE US A LIST OF THINGS THAT I KNOW I'M A CHICKEN GIRL.
BUT I THINK I'M MESSING UP THERE.
AND I THINK A, A BIG PIECE TOO IS FINDING YOUR BALANCE, RIGHT? SO IF YOU LOVE THE THINGS LIKE THE FRIED CHICKEN, IT'S NOT THAT WE CAN'T HAVE THOSE THINGS, BUT HOW CAN WE HAVE THE AWARENESS THIS MONTH TO SEE WHERE WE CAN BALANCE THAT OUT? SO HAVING SOME OF OUR WHOLE GRAINS, PUTTING THOSE WHOLE GRAINS IN THERE, PUTTING IN THOSE FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES IN ADDITION TO, UM, MINIMIZING SOME OF THOSE SWEETSS AND TREATS.
NOW I KNOW THIS YEAR, LIKE THE, THE FOOD PYRAMID SORT OF DID AN INVERSE WHERE NOW PROTEINS ARE BEING EMPHASIZED AND WHOLE GRAINS ARE NOW AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LIST.
BUT I THINK WHOLE GRAINS ARE VERY GOOD FOR YOU BECAUSE OF THE HEALTHY CARBS.
BUT WHAT CARBS SHOULD WE LOOK TO, UH, HAVE MORE OF AND WHICH CARBS SHOULD WE HAVE LESS OF? YEAH, GREAT.

SO REALLY A, A LOT OF WHY THE FOOD PYRAMID WAS KIND OF FLIPPED UPSIDE DOWN IS BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH WHOLE GRAINS ARE GOOD FOR US, TOO MUCH WHOLE GRAINS COULD RESULT IN US HAVING ELEVATED BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS.
AND SO WE STILL WANT TO HAVE THOSE HEALTHY GRAINS, BUT MAYBE CHOOSING SOME OF, OF THE COMPLEX CARBS LIKE YOUR QUINOA, BROWN RICE, WHEAT BREAD OPTIONS VERSUS THE WHITE BREAD, WHITE RICE AND WHITE PASTA.
NOW YOU TALKED ABOUT THE WHITE BREAD AND BREAD.
I JUST GENUINELY, ANYBODY LOVES, YOU KNOW, LIKE I DON'T, I'M NOT GONNA CALL ANY NAMES, ANY GREAT RESTAURANTS WITH GREAT BREAD.

BUT IF I'M GOING TO A GROCERY STORE, IS THERE, YOU KNOW, SOME TIPS ON HOW WE SHOULD SHOP.
SO THE TEMPLATE THAT I ALWAYS RECOMMEND FOLKS TO USE IS THINK OF DESIGNING THE MEAL, RIGHT? SO HALF OF THE PLATE BEING NON-STARCHY VEGETABLES.
SO THAT'S LIKE YOUR DARK LEAFY GREEN WHAT DARK LEAFY GREENS LIKE YOUR KALE AND SPINACH, BROCCOLI, CAULIFLOWER, GRILLED PEPPERS AND ONIONS TYPE OF THING OF THE OTHER HALF OF YOUR PLATE MAKING ONE FOURTH OF THAT, YOUR PROTEIN.
SO THAT COULD BE YOUR CHICKEN, MAYBE IT'S EVEN YOUR FRIED CHICKEN.

SEEING THE KIDS LATER IN LIFE TELLING ME THAT THEY REMEMBER BODY OF DOGS WHEN WE CAME TO THEIR SCHOOL, GOING OUT INTO THE NEIGHBORHOOD, SEEING THE STRAYS AND TURNING THE STREET DOG INTO THE HOME DOG AND, YOU KNOW, THE HOMELESS DOG INTO A FOREVER HOME DOG.
ULTIMATELY WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO IS CHANGE CULTURE IN OUR COMMUNITY, CHANGE CONDITIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY WHERE PEOPLE LIVE HEALTHY LIVES.
MAYOR JOHN WHITMEYER AND THE CITY OF HOUSTON ARE WORKING HARD TO ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY AND MOBILITY.
